Greetings.
I am a witch, a writer and a coach.
But my first real job was a lawyer. Right after college, I went to UCLA for law school and started my career as a member of the California Bar.
Somewhere between high school and law school, I put away the Tarot Cards and stuffed my Joseph Campbell and Celestine Prophecy to the back of my closet, pushed down my intuition and stepped into lady lawyer, all logic and no magic. Elle Woods > Sabrina.
My magic yearned to escape the prison of Big Law and Little Law and Middle Law. I tried them all, in search of which one fit. I tried public service, as an elected official in the County where I live, and that didn’t fit either.
Because what I really wanted was to tear down all the broken systems that prop up an extraction driven, capitalistic, colonial patriarchy and build something new. Something that heals. Something that spreads love and community and creativity and connection. Something that cares more about people than profits.
During the pandemic, when the world got quiet and lonely, I swam into the depths of the darkness and reawakened my inner Goddess. I went on a dark goddess journey, had my aura painted, took Intro to Tarot, Intermediate Tarot and Advanced Tarot. I baked cookies between Zoom school for my Kindergartner and 2nd grader and my own virtual meetings. I made a garden that’s grown into a native ecosystem. I wrote a novel that’s now four. I coached hundreds of people through changes in their lives and careers.
And I remembered I am a witch.
Maybe you are too. Maybe you put your own magic in a closet somewhere between undergrad and your first performance review. Maybe you are still all logic and no magic, still choosing Elle Woods when some part of you has always wanted Sabrina.
